The Department of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Financial Monitoring in Astana has uncovered a theft scheme at the “International School 81 Astana English School”, which is a municipal state institution of the Akimat. It turned out that the former school principal and chief accountant stole more than 900 million tenge of parents’ money.
According to the press service of the AFM, part of the said funds were received in cash from parents as payment for tuition in elementary grades and for the children’s stay in a children’s camp. However, these funds were not credited to the school’s accounts, but were appropriated by the management of the educational institution. The investigation also revealed that about 16 million tenge were transferred to “dead souls” employees who were relatives of the suspects and, in fact, did not work at the school.
For the stolen money, the director and accountant of the public school purchased various movable and immovable property: a cottage, 2 apartments in Astana, a car. In total, law enforcement officers found the suspects’ property worth 382 million tenge – it was seized by a court decision.
The suspects in this case are in custody. However, the press service of the AFM has not reported where more than 500 million tenge of stolen money went.
It has also not been reported whether the school’s directors had “patrons” in the Education Department of the Akimat of Astana. After all, they could have known about the fictitious relatives-employees, the real ratio of the number of children in the school to the paid contributions of parents.
