Gauez Nurmukhambetov, Akim of North Kazakhstan Oblast, publicly lied about his official car. In an interview with Tengri TV, he said he supported domestic manufacturers and that his official car was a Kazakhstan-assembled KIA EV9. A few minutes later, a luxury Lexus LX 570 SUV arrived to pick him up for a tour of the city’s facilities.
“PR Gods” is how journalists from the AIRAN channel ironically described Kazakhstani officials who strive to please everyone and engage in cheap PR.
“The Akim’s Kia is for the soul, and the Lexus is for work” – this is how some joke about this situation are made on social media.
