The court sentenced the deputy chairman of the board of JSC “Fund for Financial Support of Agriculture” Murat Iskakov and a businessman – director of an LLP – to eight years in prison. They were found guilty of multimillion-dollar thefts, Orda.kz reports.

According to the case materials, in 2017-2018, the defendants, together with their accomplices, appropriated 430.6 million tenge allocated for the establishment of apple orchards within the framework of the projects of the SPC “Alma Bau Bakshary” and SPC “Ontustik Bau Bakshary”. Using his official position, Iskakov, who is equivalent to a civil servant, provided access to budget funds. The investigation also established that in 2019, the director of the LLC, together with other persons, took possession of another 255.3 million tenge, intended to subsidize gardening farms in Shymkent. The total damage to the state was recognized as particularly large.

During the trial, the prosecutor’s office demanded real terms for the defendants. The director of the LLC asked for a mitigation of the sentence, Iskakov – for acquittal. However, the court sided with the prosecution: both received eight years in prison.

In addition, the director was deprived of the right to hold management positions in business for five years, and Iskakov was suspended for life from work in the public sector. Both had their property confiscated.

A mitigating circumstance was the presence of minor children of the convicted. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
